  • went to the larder on tuesday evening 16.03.10 with 3 friends. arrived at table for 18:30 as scheduled but one of our party was running late and didnt order till 19:00. missed the EB as it finished at 18:30 but was told when booking the table that morning that it finished at 19:30?............ the starters and mains where tasty but was misled with the chocolate brownie option. i would have expected it was homemade but instead was a piece of bought in microwaved chocolate fudge cake with squirty cream from a can on the side, terrible. did try to get someones attention but to no avail. overall, an average evening.

    • Hi Steodub, I'm sorry you were a bit disappointed with your evening in The Larder. Just to explain about the Early Bird finishing earlier that day, we were Saturday hours that Tuesday due to everyone being off the following day for Patrick's Day, meaning the Early Bird finished at 6.30pm and we were opening 'til 10.30pm. I'm sorry if the service was a bit slow that night, being the evening before Patrick's Day, which was in fact busier than the day itself, we had a very high table turnover that evening which isn't the sort of custom we usually attract. I can ensure you also that the only thing bought in on our dessert menu is the ice-cream, everything else is homemade and served from the dessert counter upstairs. I hope you come back to The Larder, besides the Early Bird we also do €10 Steak nights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sunday (with some exceptions). Regards, Gemma Crowley. Manager.

  • Went here for dinner on Saturday 22 Aug 09. Choice the early bird menu and ordered the chicken salad for starters with PorK Belly and the Lamb Burger for mains. They did not have the red wine we ordered but the waitress recommended a very good organic argentinian which was very enjoyable and not overpriced at €23. Portion sizes were excellent for an early bird and we both opted for the white chocolate and raspberry cheescake for dessert....gorgeous !. very enjoyable evening, nice atmosphere, good food and good service. Have told lots of people since the weekend about it and can't wait to go back.

  • We went for the early bird menu on Saturday night. This is exceptional value, and at these prices I suppose you have to adjust your expectations. We had the dips starter, and the chix salad. Both were fine. For mains, we had the fish pan and the pork belly. Again, both were fine. We had a 24e new zealand pinot noir, which was excellent for that price. The wine was really the highlight of the meal. My wife had an americano after, which was also excellent. I liked the atmosphere, and I really wanted to love this restaurant, but based on the early bird menu, I just can't really rave about it. The couple next to us did rave about the beef and guinness pie, so maybe next time I'll try something not on the the early bird menu.

  • Very nice atmosphere. Sympathetic service though a little slow at times. Very good food, with generous portions, and at very reasonable prices. I've returned there on several occasions and have brought out-of-town guests who really enjoyed themselves. Oh, they also prepare a great Illy coffee!

  • The early bird is one of the best value deals on offer in terms of quality of food, presentation and service. One would be hard pressed to prepare a two course meal at home for €15 (this is a little over the price of a kebab meal in a well known fast food joint nearby!) never mind three courses for €18. Overall, this restaurant's menu has to be commended for making eating out more affordable and accessible for people who consider it a luxury. The atmosphere is great, grab the front seat by the window and enjoy the people watching. The burger is delicious and comes with great chunky homemade chips crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside (what doesn't everyone do them!) and the duck also stands out for me. I would highly recommend this restaurant and hope more restaurants take their lead in bringing value back on the menu and getting real on price.

  • I had a lovely meal here last night (it was my brother's birthday). I was very impressed with the place, I told the waitress as much so she told me about this great new website to review restaurants, so here it is as promised!! We had three courses each, I had the more plush choice of duck, and I was very impressed to find how tender it was, I sometimes find duck too fatty, but this was superb. My brother and his wife had the special which was seabass if I remember correctly. They both said it was one of the nicest fish dishes they have ever had. My friend had the beef and guinness, after reading a review on it recently he wanted to try it. Apparently the review didn't do it justice!! Overall it was a lovely night, wasn't too full, a nice bit of a buzz atmosphere. I also found our waitress and the manager really helpful with their food recommendations and their knowledge of the wine list. Finally restaurant staff with a passion for food and wine!!! I hope this is one of the places that survives the recession, I will definitely be back!!

  • I can't remember the last time I had such a brilliant meal out. I was there with two friends, we were recommended a wine we hadn't heard of before which was so refreshing and we each thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Hadn't been there before, found it by chance. Fab value for money!!
